How To Efficiently Harvest And Reduce Malfunctions As Wheat Harvest Is Approaching?

May 06, 2024

The annual wheat harvest rush is about to begin, and it's also the season for the wheat combine harvester competition. Every year, during the wheat harvest operation, many agricultural machinery users fail to fully utilize the harvesting efficiency of the combine harvester due to improper use and operation, and even cause harvester malfunctions, delaying the wheat harvest operation. The current wheat ripening period is relatively concentrated in one place, and the wheat harvest time in one place is only a few days. Once there is a malfunction during use or the operational efficiency cannot be fully utilized, it will have a significant impact on the income of agricultural machinery households. When the wheat harvester is carrying out wheat harvesting operations, firstly, time is tight and the task is heavy; Secondly, the high temperature and hot climate have poor heat dissipation for the engine; Thirdly, the working environment is harsh, with a lot of dust and grass shavings, and sometimes even a cluster of dust moving forward when the harvester is working. How to improve harvesting efficiency, reduce harvesting failures, and prevent safety accidents is the top priority for agricultural machinery operators in wheat harvesting operations. What should be paid attention to when operating a wheat combine harvester during wheat harvesting? Below, we will introduce the operating experience of combine harvesters.

news-1-1

Firstly, it is important to pay attention to safety. Safety first, many safety accidents have occurred during the use of the harvester. It is necessary to carry out maintenance, repair, and use of the harvester while ensuring safety. When cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining the harvester, the engine must be turned off; When the operator leaves the cab, the engine must also be shut down and the start key must be taken away; When starting the engine, the horn must be sounded first to ensure that everyone else is away from the harvester and in a safe place before starting; When two people are working together to maintain the harvester, it is strictly prohibited for the other person to rotate the rotating parts without permission. When it is necessary to rotate, be sure to inform the other person to avoid harming them; When two people jointly maintain and inspect the harvester, it is strictly prohibited for the other person to start the engine without authorization. If the engine needs to be started, it must be confirmed that the other person has left the harvester and moved to a safe place before starting. In addition, when harvesting wheat, due to dry weather and dry materials, special attention should be paid to fire prevention. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the wheat field, and fire safety accidents caused by poor electrical circuit contact, short circuits, and the accumulation of grass debris around the engine exhaust pipe should be prevented.

The second is to dry but not wet. When going to the ground in the morning, if the wheat is damp and the dew is not completely dry, you need to wait until around 8 or 9 o'clock in the morning when the wheat dew is completely dry before going to the ground. Similarly, after rain, the same principle applies. You should wait until the wheat has dried up before starting the homework. Harvesting wheat while it is dry can improve the efficiency of the wheat harvester, and is not easy to block or cause entrainment losses, reducing wheat waste. Similarly, if there is wind during night harvesting and the dew on the wheat does not come up, the operation can continue until the dew and moisture come up.

The third is to check the maturity of the wheat. As the saying goes, "When you're eight years old, you'll receive ten percent; when you're ten years old, you'll lose twenty percent.". The late stage or early stage of wheat ripening is suitable for harvesting. Harvesting early, with high crop humidity, can cause more harvester failures, low operational efficiency, and significant harvesting losses, as well as increase the workload of drying seeds. After harvesting, it will droop along with the head, naturally causing more ears and grains to fall off, and also causing nutrient backflow in wheat, resulting in reduced yield. When wheat is in the milk ripening stage, or when lodging is too severe, or when the straw has just rained and the humidity is high, it is not suitable for machine harvesting.

The fourth is to run first before walking, with high throttle working. When the wheat harvester is working in the field, it is necessary to first engage the working clutch to allow the working components such as the header, cutter, conveyor, threshing device, and cleaning device to start running. The engine throttle should be pressed all the way to reach the rated working speed (remember not to use small and medium throttle). At this time, the operator can drive and operate the wheat harvester to start harvesting operations. Otherwise, there may be situations where the cutting blade is bitten, unable to cut, blocked, and cannot work properly due to incomplete threshing.

The fifth is to reduce the speed of high-yield fields and increase the speed of low-yield fields. The maximum feeding amount of a wheat harvester has an upper limit. Excessive feeding can easily cause overload in separation and cleaning, resulting in excessive loss and damage. So, when harvesting wheat, in plots with low wheat yields, such as yields below 400kg per mu, higher gears can generally be used for operation, and the walking speed of the harvester can be faster. When encountering high crop yields, such as a yield of 500kg per mu or more, lower gear operations can generally be selected, and the walking speed of the harvester can be slower. In fact, the excessive loss of some harvesters is closely related to the operator's pursuit of efficiency and speed. When working in high-yield fields, if there is an excessive loss, as long as the speed is reduced, most of these problems can be solved.

Sixth, it is necessary to inspect the harvester in a timely manner. Before and during harvesting, the harvester should be inspected and maintained in a timely manner according to the technical requirements of the harvester manual. If any problems are found, they should be dealt with in a timely manner to keep the harvester in good technical condition.
